Tree Branch Picture Frame Holder

Tree Branch Picture Frame Holder
Just one of many small projects I gave myself for this Xmas day playroom reveal!

This is how my to do list stands...we are 99% done, with a trip to Menard's scheduled for today. The highlighted items are done-zo.

List of Things Still To Be Done
-Paint walls
-Make pillows
-Some sort of light feature
-Get a couch
-Frame photos and hang from a tree branch (stay tuned)
-Get a T.V.

And the good thing about the pillow making is that I can just not do it and buy pillows...that's
where I'm at.

So, for the Tree Branch Frame Holder.  Sammy found this awesome branch in our backyard! He brought it in as a potential new walking stick. I decided it needed to be mine.
The trick was finding out how to hang the branch without having to drill millions of holes into the wall. So I found these hooks at target and secured them with drywall anchors and screws.
After I adjusted my branch how I wanted it to lay, I bought two frames at Marshall's for $5 a pop. Be sure your frames have hanging mechanics on the sides of the frame not just the top. I then tied my black velvet ribbon to each side of the frame and connected a small loop to the center of that.

I figured that the look lends itself to natural hanging, not exactly precise lines. I really love the small imperfections that come from home made items.

You can see a glance of what we have done so far! The black patch of paint under the stairs is magnetic...and the stand now holds a T.V. ready for family movie nights.

Basement Update: A whole lot of planning

Chalkboard Table Complete!
So, I am hoping for that lovely Christmas morning reveal. I want the kids to wake up and see a space for crafting, exploring, and storing. Which means I still have a lot of work to do. Today I finished the "chalkboard" play table. I got to admit I am mostly using this post as a way to organize my thoughts and visualize my laundry list.

Here is my previous plan for the playroom/basement.

I have tweaked a few things and bought my paint! The paint color I chose is by Sherwin-Williams and is called Light French Gray. The basement is a small area and needs lightening up. Here is a picture off of the Sherwin-Williams website that features the (hopefully) perfect gray color!

In my previous blog post, my original plan was to use Ikea Expedit Shelves to create storage and seating. As seen here.----->
<-----Here is what we have so far. I purchased boxes with lids for $7.99 each at Old Time Pottery! We have since decided to get a couch for a tv/lounge area, so I am  nixing the padded top for the shelves. I did purchase fabric from OTP ($2 for 2 yards), which I am going to use for making comfy pillows. The white stools and area rug are from Ikea's Children's Section.

I bought a Martha Stewart Sunburst Mirror at Home Depot for $35!

I scored this wooden book shelf at Goodwill for $5 and painted it black! (Stay tuned for the final reveal)------>

Today I finished making the chalkboard table. We have had this "end table" for years now, which was purchased at T.J. Maxx for $19.99. It is warped from water spills and looks like it belongs in a night club. I primed the top with basic primer. After the primer dried, I sprayed the chalkboard paint horizontally until the table was completely covered. That's it!

List of Things Still To Be Done
-Paint walls
-Make pillows
-Some sort of light feature
-Get a couch
-Frame photos and hang from a tree branch (stay tuned)
-Get a T.V.

Um, 15 days until XMAS??? Really??

Christmas Tree & Pine Cone Ornaments

A Christmas Themed Sunday

We went to Guse's Christmas Tree Farm in Wanatah today to chop down our tree. Sammy and I have been getting real trees every Christmas we have been together. The first tree was $15 and we had to basically lie, cheat, and not eat for a week to get it. The best of times. Today we can pick the 8ft tree and buy the fresh popped popcorn. The kids even got to see Santa and take a train ride.

We decorated the tree and I spray-painted some pine cones I collected from my biggest pine tree, and from my mom's row of pines.

You can pretty much use the photos below as a tutorial to make your very own pine cone ornaments. They can also be used as a way to spruce up your gift wrapping. Get it...SPRUCE!

The kids did their own tree decor and we finished the afternoon with some warm milk.

Playroom Post 1: Gathering My Ideas

Playroom

So this is kind of a cheesy vision board post, but when you want something to look a certain way (on a budget)...blah blah blah. I am really trying to use things we already have by giving them a little facelift (stay tuned). I am hoping for a Christmas Morning Reveal!

Color Palette: Green, Black, White, Tan, Gray, and Red or Orange

I am working with a tiny finished space in my basement. About average living room size (I worked out this am, so I am not going downstairs to measure the basement), and it needs to be multifunctional.

Wish List
-Reading Nook
-Craft Area
-Organized Storage
-TV area
-Music Corner

Inspiration Pics!
Here are the purchases I have made already...and photos of what I am REACHING for.

I sent Sammy to Ikea to pick up this area rug ($29), two expedit units to make the seating/storage combo seen above, and the stools ($7.99ea)!

Black and White fabric for the seating cushion-->

We have had this table for years...I am going to prime the top and paint it with chalkboard paint!---->

Ikea was out of these $3.99 spice racks, but I am going to get me some!

This is what I picture happening in my utopia basement...I may need to rent kids.
