Beautiful Brown Easter Eggs

I really hoped that brown eggs could be colored for easter. We buy and eat brown hard-boiled eggs on a regular basis, so running to the store to get white ones seemed silly.
Spring Break Pajama Day #2
Here is my rationale. The adorable easter egg coloring kits rarely work. Let's be honest. We buy the cups (barely any color transfers to the egg) and we pour warm water onto tablets (the tablet never actually dissolves). Well not this year. I wasn't going to go through all that effort not to make an effort...hahaha. Modest Mouse song reference in an Easter post, why not.
This year I searched the blogosphere for information on dying brown eggs, which led me here.
I hard-boiled a dozen brown eggs this morning and let them cool in the fridge for a few hours. I filled four plastic cups with 1 cup warm tap water and 2 tbs white vinegar. I added regular food coloring to each one...we chose to make red, purple, green, and blue. The kids did all the work (it's just food coloring and water after all), and ta-da! I should have taken a photo of their hands because they were oddly dye free. Rex immediately wanted the "orange" one, and Goldie had the "purple" one. I think they are absolutely gorgeous and edible to boot.
Happy Easter Mad Mommas!
